Limerick woman Philomena Lee, whose experience of forced adoption was the subject of Philomena, will launch the film's DVD and Blu-Ray release with an apperance in Dundrum, Dublin this Friday.

She will be at HMV Dundrum for an in-store appearance on Friday March 21, at 3.00pm, and will take part in a Q&A with fans and well wishers and sign copies of the DVD.

Based on the best-selling book, The Lost Child of Philomena Lee, by Martin Sixsmith, Philomena's true story was adapted as a comedy drama for the screen by star Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope.

Philomena (who is played by Judi Dench in the film) became pregnant as a teenager in 1952 and was sent to the convent of Roscrea to be looked after as a “fallen woman”.

When her baby was only a toddler, he was adopted and whisked to America without warning. Philomena spent the next fifty years searching for her lost son in vain.

When she met Martin Sixsmith (Coogan), a world-weary journalist as cynical as Philomena was trusting, the pair set off to finally discover what had become of her son.

Philomena was nominated for four Oscars at this year's Academy Awards.
