HBO is set to release a rap mixtape in what is a novel approach to promoting the upcoming fourth season of Game of Thrones.
The ten-track collection is entitled Catch the Throne and will feature new and original tracks from acts such as Outkast's Big Boi, Wale and Common.
The US cable network announced the mixtape as one part of an effort to draw a more diverse audience to the fantasy series, which is based on the popular novels written by George RR Martin.
In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, HBO's Lucinda Martinez said: “Our multicultural audiences are a very important part of our subscribers, and we don't want to take them for granted.”
Outkast's Big Boi is a fan of Game of Thrones, so it’s certainly not a token effort from him. “I'm really happy,” he said. “I get to be part of the process of one of my favourite shows.”
Catch the Throne will be released by HBO as a free download on Friday (March 7), while the fourth season of Game of Thrones starts on Sky Atlantic on April 7.
