Irish rockers U2 missed out last night on winning the Oscar for Best Original Song for Ordinary Love which features in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.

The Oscar was won by the song Let It Go from the Oscar-winning Animated Feature, Frozen.

The group braved the rain last night outside the Dolby Theater to pose with their partners before taking to the stage to perform the song.

The group were introduced on stage by Brad Pitt who said “Our next performers are the biggest rock band in the world, so it’s only fitting that they use their considerable gifts to pay tribute to one of the most profoundly good and courageous heroes of our time.”

After the performance the group received a standing ovation from the audience of A-list stars.
