David Tennant has described working on the Broadchurch US remake as "a very peculiar experience".

Tennant played DI Alec Hardy in the hit ITV crime drama and will also front the US version, which is called Gracepoint.

"There is no precedent for this," the Scottish actor told Entertainment Weekly. "It's so familiar, yet completely new. It's a very peculiar experience.

"I'm playing scenes in a different location with different people [so] it's going to be different; you just have to be open to where that goes."

Fox boss Kevin Reilly previously stated that Gracepoint will be quite different and vary considerably from the original Broadchurch plot.

"Certainly the pilot episode sticks very closely to the original," Tennant said. "[But] as the story goes on it eases out a bit, there's extra twists and turns, some characters are more developed.

"I think the story will go in directions that fans wouldn't necessarily recognise."
