Irish author Emma Donoghue’s latest novel, Frog Music, based on an unsolved murder, will be published on April 1.

The novel is set during the summer of 1876, in San Francisco which is in the fierce grip of a record-breaking heatwave and a smallpox epidemic.

Through the window of a railroad saloon, a young woman called Jenny Bonnet is shot dead. Her friend Blanche Beunon, a French burlesque dancer, spends the next three days risking everything to bring Jenny’s murderer to justice - if he doesn’t track her down first.

Frog Music is Donoghue's twelfth book of fiction. The author's seventh novel, Room which was inspired by the infamous Fritzl case in Austria appeared in 2010.

The compelling tale told the harrowing story of a boy who spends his life imprisoned in a room. Shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, Room gained the author a vast readership and many new fans around the world.
