The Brendan Gleeson-starring Calvary was among the winners at the Berlin Film Festival at the weekend.

The dark comedy, which reunites Gleeson with The Guard director John Michael McDonagh, won in the Panorama section of the festival, as voted for by an independent jury.

Calvary tells the story of a priest who must battle the dark forces in his small country town and also stars Marie-Josée Croze, Isaach De Bankolé, Aidan Gillen, Domhnall Gleeson, David McSavage, Dylan Moran, Chris O'Dowd, Kelly Reilly, Killian Scott, Pat Shortt and David Wilmot.

Calvary received its Irish premiere at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival last week and will be released on Friday April 11.
