Leonardo DiCaprio has said that after a sing-song with Moulin Rouge director Baz Luhrman they decided it would be best to cast someone else in the film.

The Wolf of Wall Street star worked with Luhrman on Romeo + Juliet, and more recently on The Great Gatsby, and while he was originally in talks to play the role in Moulin Rouge that ended up going to Ewan McGregor, his singing voice held him back.

DiCaprio explained, "To be honest, I'm not really prepared to do a musical, simply because I think I have a pretty atrocious voice. We [DiCaprio and Luhrman] had a friendly thing where it was me and him and a piano player, and we tried to sing a song together.

"It didn't go too well. I think it was Lean On Me, and when I hit the high note, he just turned to me, 'Yes, D, I don't know if this conversation should continue'."
