Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are frequent collaborators, a relationship that began with a recommendation from Robert De Niro.
Having worked with DiCaprio on the 1993 film This Boy's Life, De Niro was impressed by the then young star and recommended him to Martin Scorsese.
Scorsese said at the Cinema Vanguard Awards, "He [De Niro] said, 'I'm working with this young kid. He's really good. You should work with him sometime.' For him to recommend someone for me out of the blue in that way was really, really, really special."
It was seeing DiCaprio in What's Eating Gilbert Grape however that really made Scorsese take notice.
DiCaprio has starred in five of Scorsese's huge hits, Gangs of New York, Shutter Island, The Departed, The Aviator and this year's The Wolf of Wall Street.
