New Cork venue Coughlan's triumphs at IMRO awards

New Cork venue Coughlan's won the public vote and was named National Live Music Venue of the Year at last night's IMRO Live Music Venue of the Year Awards in Dublin.

The awards, which took place at the Irish Music Rights Organisation HQ, are now in their sixth year and are voted by over 8,500 IMRO members. Other winners in the regional categories last night included:

Dublin - Whelan's
Rest of Leinster - Mermaid Arts Centre, Wicklow
Munster - Crane Lane Theatre, Cork
Ulster - An Grianán Theatre, Letterkenny
Connacht - Matt Molloy’s, Westport, Co. Mayo

Also collecting accolades for IMRO Live Music Festival of the Year and IMRO Best Small Live Music Festival were Electric Picnic and Body & Soul respectively.

Performances last night came from Dublin act Kodaline who were presented the IMRO No.1 Award in recognition of their debut album going to number one album, Gavin James, I Am The Cosmos and IMRO’s newest member Eve Murtagh.

Whelan's of Dublin, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, was also singled out for special praise from the judges.
