The Murder, She Wrote reboot planned by NBC has reportedly been scrapped.
According to Deadline, the network has decided against launching an update of the classic mystery drama, which was due to feature Oscar-winning actress Octavia Spencer as the main protagonist.
Last October it was revealed that Desperate Housewives producers Alexandra Cunningham and David Janollari were developing a new version of the iconic show, with a put-pilot commitment from the broadcaster.
However, it is thought that NBC has not completely given up on the idea of the reboot, but feel that it could be approached in a different way, possibly with a new concept.
The original Murder, She Wrote starred Angela Lansbury as mystery writer and amateur detective Jessica Fletcher and ran for 12 seasons on CBS from 1984 to 1996.
In the re-imagining, Spencer was set to play a hospital administrator and amateur sleuth who self-publishes her first mystery novel.
