Universal Pictures have announced that they will release a new How the Grinch Stole Christmas film and Despicable Me 3 in 2017 through Illumination Entertainment.
The remake of The Grinch will be the latest of its Dr Seuss adaptations, following The Lorax and will arrive ahead of its planned Cat in the Hat film.
Pete Candeland will direct the film, which is expected to hit the screen 17 years after Jim Carrey's live action version in November 2017. The original animated version was released in 1966.
Another instalment of the hit Despicable Me franchise will be released on June 30, 2017, two years after the spin-off Minions, which is due in cinemas in July 2015.
Illumination Entertainment are also working on two other - so far unannounced - projects for 2016, one of which will be released for that year’s Christmas market. Furthermore, they've a Dr Seuss biopic in the pipeline.
