Blur bassist Alex James wants to launch a new range of drinks called Britpop.

Business website City AM reports that James first sought the trademark in October 2013 and it was under consideration by the UK's Intellectual Property Office last week.

The Britpop range could include "beverages enriched with added minerals" as well as "low alcohol beer" and "alcopos".

James already has a foothold in the food market and has been a keen cheesemaker for several years. In 2012 UK supermarket chain ASDA stopped stocking his range of cheese, describing the tastes of his products as "ahead of their time".
