Colm Meaney is to star opposite David Morrissey, Claudie Blakley, Sacha Parkinson and Ian Hart in a new three-part BBC One drama called The Driver.

The Driver tells the story of Vince (Morrissey), "an ordinary man who - because of family mystery, frustration with his job and his life - makes a terrible decision".

The BBC says the new show marks Meaney's first UK television series role since police drama Strangers in 1982.

The Driver has begun filming in and around Manchester and will be shown on BBC One later this year.
