Actor Stephen Fry, who struggles with mental health issues himself, has lent his support to First Fornight, the Irish mental health arts festival which is currently taking place.

Fry championed the event to his 6.5 million Twitter followers, appealing for them to “show support for Ireland's @firstfortnight mental health arts fest. Let's break the stigma.”

The festival which began on January 2 and runs to January 11 aims to challenge mental health prejudice through the creative arts.

JP Swaine of First Fortnight told The Herald newspaper “we were delighted that Stephen Fry tweeted in support of First Fortnight yesterday”.

In an interview last year, Fry revealed: “I have a condition which requires me to take medication so that I don't get either too hyper or too depressed to the point of suicide.”
