Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts' new film August: Osage County, has picked up four awards at the Capri, Hollywood Film Festival.

The adaptation of Tracy Letts' play about a dysfunctional family's reunion was named Film of the Year yesterday (1 January), while Streep picked up the Best Actress gong and the cast won the Best Ensemble prize.

The movie's star Chris Cooper also was honoured with the festival's Lifetime Achievement Award.

Officials at the festival, which takes place on the island of Capri, have a history of choosing the Best Film Oscar winner. In the past they have given their top prize to The Artist, The King's Speech and Slumdog Millionaire, which all won big at the Academy Awards.

Idris Elba was named Best Actor at the Capri film awards for his performance in Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, while his co-star Naomie Harris was awarded Best Supporting Actress.
