U2 honoured at US festival for humanitarian work

U2 - Receiving the Sonny Bono Visionary Award for their "humanitarian work against extreme poverty, disease, and social injustice"

U2 will receive the Sonny Bono Visionary Award at the 25th annual Palm Springs International Film Festival in California in January.

Deadline.com reports that the award, which usually goes to directors, will be presented to U2 for their "humanitarian work against extreme poverty, disease, and social injustice".

Other honourees at the festival will include Sandra Bullock, Bruce Dern, Tom Hanks, Matthew McConaughey, director Steve McQueen, Thomas Newman, Lupita Nyong'o, Julia Roberts, Meryl Streep and the cast of American Hustle.

The festival runs from January 3 to 13.
