The Rolling Stones performance at the Glastonbury festival last summer has been voted the music story of the year in a poll of users of the British free music streaming service, blinkbox music.
The Stones drew 25 percent of all votes and eight times more votes than superstars One Direction.
In the poll of significant music events, the death of one-time Velvet Underground singer Lou Reed in October took second place. David Bowie’s re-emergence from ten years of retirement to release his album, The Next Day occupied third place. The album made it to number one in the UK and throughout most European countries. However, it just failed to make the top spot in the United States, remaining at number two.
Other hits in the poll included news that McFly and Busted would form a super group, Eminem’s return to glory was voted eighth in significance and B*witched going on tour with The Big Reunion gang made the tenth spot. In fact the latter was deemed a bigger moment for blinkbox voters than Beyonce’s album, news of which came in at eleventh place.
