It has been confirmed that a big screen remake of the Agatha Christie murder mystery, Murder on the Orient Express, is in the works.

The Hollywood Reporter says Fox has picked up the screen rights to the classic 1934 mystery novel which last came to the big screen in 1974 with an all star cast including Albert Finney as Poirot as well as Lauren Bacall, Sean Connery, John Gielgud, Jacqueline Bisset and Vanessa Redgrave. Ingrid Bergman won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her performance as Greta in the film.

The film is set to be produced by Ridley Scott, Simon Kinberg and Mark Gordon and the search is now on for a writer to adapt a new screenplay.

The Orient Express referenced in the book ceased to run from 2009 so it is unclear if the producers intend to make a period film or a more contemporary piece.
