One Direction halt Kodaline's dash for No 1

1 of 1 1D No 1 again
1D No 1 again

Kodaline's bid to spend their eighth week this year at No 1 in the album chart has been halted by the tweenybopper might of One Direction fans.

The boy band's third album, Midnight Memories, debuts at the top of the Irish chart today with Kodaline's debut, In a Perfect World, making it to a very respectable at No 2 having sold more than 15,000 copies since its release last June.

Elsewhere in the new singles chart, Irish act The Original Rudeboys crash into the top ten with their new single Never Gonna Walk Away and The Pogues and Kirsty McColl make their first appearance of the Christmas season at No 39 with the eternal Fairytale of New York.

Over on the grown-up chart, Gary Barlow's new album Since I Saw You Last outsells Boyzone's return with BZ:20 and the resurgent Finbar Furey debuts at No 21 with his new album, The Last Great Love Song.
