RTÉ announces Christmas TV line-up

A Mrs Brown's Boys Christmas special, a new documentary on comedian Dermot Morgan, movie premieres, and NYE concerts from around the country are among the shows lined up for Christmas on RTE.

The schedule features "home-produced entertainment, big movie premieres, lifestyle, drama, young peoples, documentaries and sports programming, special seasonal versions of viewer favourites" and more.

On RTÉ One, Mrs Brown's Boys will return for Christmas and New Year's Specials; Fair City will have a one-hour Christmas Day episode; Gay Byrne will be joined For One Night Only by Phil Coulter; the life and work of Dermot Morgan will be celebrated in Dermot Morgan Fearless Funnyman and Good Year/Bad Year will take a satirical look back at 2013.

RTÉ Two's highlights include an extended Republic of Telly; review of the year Totes Amazeballs – 2013; new comedy panel show Next Year's News; the Mario Rosenstock Show Christmas Special; the RTÉ Sport Awards; the GAA documentary 2013 – A Summer in Blue and Donal Walsh – My Story, a tribute to the late, inspirational teenager.

RTÉjr's Christmas programming includes gift of giving documentary Made with Love; Tell Me A Story; Sharon Shannon on The Beo Show; The Curious World of Professor Fun and Dr Dull; Sing-along with Emma O'Driscoll and Spraoí.

On RTÉ Two, Una's Dream Ticket will see The Saturdays' Una Healy making boys and girls' dreams come true; teenage viewers will tell their stories in Life's Like This; news2day will have its Review of the Year and the elev8 and Two Tube gangs will serve up lots of festive shenanigans and surprises.

Also part of the Christmas schedule on RTÉ One are: The Zoo Christmas Special; Irish Pictorial Weekly; Callan Kicks the Year; Zig and Zag's Super Festive Bloopers; Christmas specials from Rachel Allen, Neven Maguire and Kitchen Hero's Donal Skehan and At Your Service – to the Rescue.

New Year's Eve Live – The Ultimate Gathering will see Dáithí Ó Sé and Sinéad Kennedy presenting from the 3 NYE concert in College Green, Dublin, with Will Leahy welcoming Limerick City of Culture with a special concert on the banks of the Shannon. RTÉ Radio 1 will also be broadcasting live from the 3 NYE Concert in Dublin, while RTÉ Digital will stream the entire Limerick concert live on the RTÉ Player.

Among the highlights of this year's Christmas religious programmes on RTÉ One are Carols from Dublin Castle; Midnight Mass; Mass for Christmas Day; Urbi et Orbi; services from Dublin and Belfast and a multi-denominational celebration of Christmas through the eyes of children with RTÉ Cor na nÓg.

Movie premieres on RTÉ One this Christmas include: Shrek Forever After, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Kung Fu Panda 2, Bridesmaids, Robin Hood and The Guard. Other great titles on RTÉ One include: Four Christmases, Quantum of Solace, Avatar, Sherlock Holmes and The Perfect Storm.

Classic movies on RTÉ One include It's a Wonderful Life, Gone with the Wind, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, High Society, The Sound of Music, Doctor Zhivago, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Murder on the Orient Express, Australia, To Kill a Mockingbird and The French Connection.

Over on RTÉ Two the movie premieres include: The Dark Knight, along with other great movies like Anchorman, Sex and the City 2, While You Were Sleeping, Pearl Harbor, Little Miss Sunshine, Blades of Glory, The Social Network, Terminator: Salvation, Spider-Man 3, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, Jackass 2, Die Hard 2 and Burn After Reading.         

Classic movies on RTÉ Two include: ET, Babe, Superman, Superman II, For Your Eyes Only, The Living Daylights, Licence to Kill, A View to a Kill, Apocalypse Now, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Blues Brothers.

Children's movies on RTÉ Two include: Winnie the Pooh, The Fantastic Mr Fox, Charlotte's Web, Kung Fu Panda Holiday, The Borrowers, The Fox and the Hound, The Sword in the Stone, Dinosaur, The Secret of Kells, Bee Movie, Coraline and Barbie: A Perfect Christmas.
