Irish-British novelist Eimear McBride has won a literary award for her debut novel 'A Girl Is A Half-Formed Thing'.

She received the Goldsmiths Prize, worth £10,000, in London tonight.

The novel tells the story of a girl growing up in Ireland and her relationship with her brother.

It had been rejected by every major publishing house nine years ago, before it was published earlier this year.
