Lead singer of Irish band Royseven, Paul Walsh, is swapping one mic for another as he hosts the weekly community challenges being set on tonight's Doctors on Call.

Walsh, a former nurse and Manager in the Health Service will follow the experts on the new six-part RTÉ series and check in with everyone from Donegal fishermen to Mitchelstown’s Active retirement club in a bid to improve their health.

Speaking to RTÉ TEN about the new show, which will launch tonight, GP Dr Ciara Kelly said: "Doctors on call is a new kind of health show – it's fast paced.

"It's got a lot of different things happening, from cutting edge medical advances to community challenges and also very accessible everyday health problems that our viewers will all relate to.

"It's a magazine show and it's packed full of easy to understand information on how to take control of your own health."

She added: "Everyone should be in charge and in control of their own health and when you think of how much lifestyle affects health, you realise what a difference you can make to your health with some simple changes.
"There is a great community challenge this evening. Terry [Dr Deeny] will be starting 'The Big Six'. Johnny [Dr Walker] has some great new gadgets to manage your health - not  science fiction but science fact and I will be talking about  maximising your fertility!"

Watch Doctors on Call tonight at 8.30pm on RTÉ One.
