Colm Tóibín's Brooklyn to film in Ireland

Irish novelist Colm Tóibín’s best-selling novel Brooklyn will be partly shot in Ireland early next year after being optioned by English production company Wildgaze Films.

Saoirse Ronan and Domhnall Gleeson are set to star opposite each other in the upcoming movie.

Director John Crowley confirmed to Bleeding Cool News that Ronan will replace the previously cast The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo actress, Rooney Mara.

She will play Ellis Lacey, a young Irish immigrant who arrives in 1950’s New York and falls in love with an Italian before tragedy beckons her back home again.

About Time’s Gleeson has recently joined the film, which Nick Hornby adapted for the big screen and Jim Broadbent has also been cast.
