Vickers: "I was 16 - I didn't know who I was"

Music to Make Boys Cry singer Diana Vickers has said that she did not consider herself an artist when she appeared on The X Factor in 2008.

The 22-year-old star insisted that she "didn't know" what kind of artist she wanted to be, when she was on the popular reality show.

Speaking to FHM, Vickers said: "I was 16 - I didn't know who I was. I wasn't an artist, I didn't write my own music, I didn't know what I wanted to be."

She added: "Now I'm 22 and I know the sort of artist I want to be. And when I perform, I wear shoes!"

When asked about the future of The X Factor, Vickers said: "I think maybe [The X Factor] should go away for a few years and come back again fresh.

"When you see something too much, it's good to step away from it and then come back to it. It makes you appreciate it a bit more."
