Arctic Monkeys have been forced to postpone two UK concerts after lead singer Alex Turner was diagnosed with laryngitis.

The Sheffield band, whose new album AM has been a fixture in the Irish charts since its release last September, had to call off their Halloween night gig in Birmingham’s LG Arena hours before they were due on stage.

That show and Friday's gig in Glasgow’s Hydro has also been rescheduled with all tickets will remain valid for the rearranged dates.

A statement issued by the band says: "We wish to apologise to all ticket holders for any inconvenience this has caused. Please contact the customer services at the box office you purchased your tickets for any further assistance."

AM had been nominated at Wednesday night's Mercury Prize awards but lost out to James Blake’s second album, Overgrown.
