His teenage scripts for Coronation Street may have been rejected but Morrissey was offered a role in rival soap EastEnders as Dot Cotton's "so far unmentioned" son.
The former Smiths' frontman makes the revelation in his memoir Autobiography which has received mixed reviews since its publication last Thursday.
In the book he writes: “I would arrive unexpectedly in Albert Square and cause births, deaths and factory fires every time I open my mouth.”
The 54-year-old also says he was offered a role on rural soap Emmerdale. “The most fascinating aspect of both offers is that somebody somewhere thought it a good idea.”
Morrissey also claims that he was offered a cameo role in sitcom Friends during a visit to the set.
