Coronation Street’s Hayley and husband Roy are set to disagree over her plans to end her own life as she is suffering with incurable pancreatic cancer.
The ITV soap revealed recently that it was planning a storyline on the controversial issue of the ‘right to die’ involving the character.
Hayley will shortly reveal to Roy, played by David Neilson, her intention.
Julie Hesmondhalgh told Soaplife "It's a horrible, terrible shock for him. While they were having an amazing time in Blackpool, Hayley was obviously thinking about ending her life. It seems like a massive betrayal to him. He thinks she's being incredibly selfish - he just wants every possible moment with her."
Hesmondhalgh added: "She's not budging - and nor is he. That's very unusual for Roy and Hayley as they've always found some common ground. Hayley needs Roy's blessing on this, but he won't give it. There's a terrible row. Hayley ends up leaving and going to Fiz and Tyrone's."
"[Then] Hayley's suddenly rushed into hospital. She's really scared the cancer has spread. It turns out to be a bacterial infection, but it proves to Hayley how important it is for her to end her life when she feels it's right.
"Roy visits Hayley in hospital and they're both devastated that she was rushed in when they were separated. Roy feels terrible about it, but he hasn't changed his mind."
Haley is set to reveal her wishes next Friday, October 18th.
