Danny Boyle is rumoured to be directing a feature film adaptation of a documentary about a band of infamous thieves.
The Slumdog Millionaire director is said to be adapting Smash and Grab: The Story of the Pink Panthers for the big screen.
The original documentary by Havana Marking was released last year and is about the world's most successful diamond thieves.
It features footage of the robbers captured on CCTV as well as interviews with several members of the gang.
Variety reports that Boyle was interested in turning the documentary into a film after watching it, leading to his long-term producing partner Christian Colson coming on board.
Pathe and Fox Searchlight will co-finance the movie, while Boyle will produce through his Cloud Eight Films banner.
Boyle was said to be searching for his next project after working on the heist thriller Trance, which stars James McAvoy.
