Scottish actor David Tennant - who starred in the ITV original version of Broadchurch - is to star in Fox's US adaptation.
Best known on both sides of the Atlantic as the tenth Doctor Who, Tennant will play a character similar to his role in the original Broadchurch, but this time he'll use an American accent.
The casting reunites Tennant with Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, who's also exec-producing the US version and writing the premiere episode.
In the original - which was the UK's most-watched new drama of 2013 and attracted more than 10 million viewers for its season finale - Tennant plays Alec Hardy, a no-nonsense Detective Inspector who's new to the town of Broadchurch and immediately thrown into the case of a murdered boy.
The US Broadchurch is expected to begin shooting in January and air during the 2014-2015 TV season.
