Ben Affleck has teamed up with Glenn Gordon Caron for a TV crime drama series.

The Academy Award winning director Affleck, and Caron, a highly regarded series creator, have been given a Fox pilot order for their series The Middle Man according to Deadline.

It will be Affleck's TV directing debut and he will executive produce the series with Caron through his Pearl Street Films company.

The Middle Man will take place in Affleck's native Boston and is described as a classic Boston crime story.

It will be set in the 1960s and tell the story of an FBI agent charged with taking down the Italian mafia but with his Irish-American gangster informant he inadvertently aids the ride of the Irish mob.

The project was originally started after Affleck's 2009 film The Town but was put on the back burner when he became busy with Argo.
