Brendan O'Carroll bags another gong for Mrs Brown's Boys

Brendan O'Carroll's Mrs. Brown's Boys scored the Best Comedy award at last night's TV Choice Awards, trumping over Bad Education, Miranda and Not Going Out.

Doctor Who took home the coveted Best Drama gong at the ceremony, fighting off competition from the Downton Abbey, Call the Midwife and Waterloo Road to win the honour, while also picking up the Outstanding Contribution Award as it prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in November.

The Best New Drama award went to ITV's Broadchurch, with the show's star David Tennant winning Best Actor for his leading role in the murder mystery.

Best Actress went to Miranda Hart for her performance in Call The Midwife, beating off competition from Jenna Coleman (Doctor Who), Olivia Colman (Broadchurch) and Sheridan Smith (Mrs Biggs).

Coronation Street won Best Soap, with its star Michelle Keegan picking up the Best Soap Actress award.

David Witts and Shane Richie won Best Soap Newcomer and Best Soap Actor respectively for BBC's Eastenders.

Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway won Best Entertainment Show, while Britain's Got Talent and I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! won Best Talent Show and Best Reality Show.
