Christina Hendricks has moved up the ranks to take a leading role in the forthcoming movie Dark Places.
The Mad Men star will now play Charlize Theron's murdered mother in the adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel, according to Deadline.
Hendricks had originally been cast as stripper Krissi Cates, but will now take on the more prominent role of Patty Day, Libby Davis' mother, due to Samantha Morton exiting the production.
The actress will appear in a number of flashbacks throughout the film.
Dark Places centres around a young woman (Theron), who is haunted by the supposed massacre of her family by her brother years ago.
However, a group of murder enthusiasts force Davis to confront the fact that she may have been mistaken about the killings.
Also starring in the film are Chloe Grace Moretz, Nicholas Hoult, Corey Stoll and Tye Sheridan.
Dark Places will be released in cinemas in 2014.
