Matt Damon has reportedly joined the cast of Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller Interstellar.

The Elysium star is said to have signed on for a small supporting role in the forthcoming film from The Dark Knight director reports website The Playlist.

A source close to Damon told the site that the actor will be shooting on the project for two weeks in Iceland.

The plot of Interstellar has been largely kept under wraps, however it is thought to centre on a group of explorers who travel vast distances through space via wormholes.

Already cast in the movie are Anne Hathaway, Matthew McConaughey (no stranger to long space trip after his role in Contact), Jessica Chastain, Topher Grace, Wes Bentley, Mackenzie Foy, Michael Caine, Casey Affleck, David Oyelowo, John Lithgow, Ellen Burstyn and Bill Irwin.

Damon is also apparently poised to make his directorial debut with a movie called A Foreigner.

Interstellar is scheduled for release on November 7th, 2014.
