English actor David Morrissey – who currently plays The Governor on US cable network AMC's hit zombie drama The Walking Dead – has joined the cast of a new show from US network AMC.

Morrissey's latest role sees him cast in Line of Sight as Lewis Bernt, an air safety official caught up in a mysterious plane crash.

The 49-year-old will be "doing double duty" on The Walking Dead and the Line of Sight pilot, AMC announced in a statement.

"We are huge fans of David Morrissey and are glad he'll be doing double duty for AMC viewers through his work on The Walking Dead and our pilot for Line Of Sight, both of which are produced in Atlanta," the network said.

Morrissey recently admitted his surprise that The Governor survived to appear in The Walking Dead's upcoming fourth season.

"I think that's what's good about the show - it has this frisson with its audience that no-one is safe," he said. "I was surprised but also delighted [to make it to season four]."

Former 24 actress Sarah Clarke has also been cast in Line of Sight as Lewis' wife Dot, who becomes caught up in his obsessive quest to find the cause of his plane crash.
