Rooney Mara hopes Sony Pictures get the ball rolling for the Dragon Tattoo sequel soon

Rooney Mara has expressed her desire to make a sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

The 28-year-old actress, who earned an Oscar nomination for her part as computer hacker Lisbeth Salander in the movie, hopes that Sony Pictures continue with their plans to make The Girl Who Played with Fire.

Speaking to MTV, Rooney said: ''I hope that they make the second one. I'm just not sure when they're going to. I mean, I hope they make it soon because I'm not getting any younger. The second one is very physical, so hopefully they'll be making it sooner rather than later.''

The films are based on Steig Larsson's best-selling crime novel trilogy about a computer hacker who joins forces with journalist Mikael Blomkvist, played by Daniel Craig, to uncover a major conspiracy.

Mara and Craig both signed on to feature in three movies when they made the 2011 original, but it's yet unknown whether director David Fincher will return to the project.

Fincher will next direct Gone Girl, an adaptation of Gillian Flynn's best-selling novel.
