Kate Winslet has signed on for the upcoming film The Dressmaker.
The actress will star alongside Judy Davis in the project from Australian writer-director Jocelyn Moorhouse.
The movie, which has been described as a "stylish drama with comic undertones", is based on the novel by the same name by Rosalie Ham.
Winslet will play Tilly Dunnage, a talented couturier, who returns after many years in Europe to her small Australian outback hometown with revenge on her mind.
She wants to make amends with her eccentric mother (Davis), while unravelling the secrets of her past.
Producer Sam Maslin said: "This is a project with rich, complex characters and an indelible Australian setting. Jocelyn is the perfect filmmaker to bring Rosalie Ham's book to screens throughout the world.
“The incredible assembly of talent in front of and behind the camera is testimony to the ambition of everyone involved to make a great film. We look forward to working with Universal Pictures to bring this project to Australian audiences."
Shooting on The Dressmaker will begin in 2014 in Australia.
