Philip Glass: Nova, 8.00pm, RTÉ lyric fm Presented by Bernard Clarke, Nova is about new music, one of the most idiosyncratic programmes on Irish radio. The eternally enthusiastic Bernard often yields up some really adventurous sonic experimentation and boundary-pushing musical exercises.
Tonight's Nova features a conversation between Einstein on the Beach composer Philip Glass and US radio station WQXR host Terrance McKnight. The Robert Wilson and Philip Glass collaboration Einstein on the Beach (An Opera in Four Acts) is widely recognized as one of the most innovative operatic achievements of the 20th century.
Tonight’s Nova marks a new production of the work this Autumn in the Brooklyn Academy of Music with a broadcast of highlights from the music and text of Einstein on the Beach, including the Knee Plays. Also to be heard is a long conversation between composer Philip Glass, company members and US radio station WQXR host Terrance McKnight.
