Father Ted star Ardal O'Hanlon has been cast in a new Channel 4 comedy based around Irish culture.

The comic actor will star in the forthcoming series London Irish, which is set to air this autumn.

The show centres on four Northern Ireland natives who have settled in London together.

They are described as being "too drunk to know where they're going, or remember where they've been. If there had been a plan, it wouldn't have been this".

O'Hanlon stars as the father of the family in the show.

He said: "London Irish is a fresh, cheerfully outrageous, no-limits comedy. There isn't a taboo that goes unexplored. I'm delighted to play Da, who's oblivious to all that. The writing is fearlessly funny and the cast ridiculously charismatic."

Kerr Logan and Sinead Keenan play his children on the show, while Peter Campion and Kat Reagan play fellow ex-pats.

London Irish has been written by Derry playwright Lisa McGee.

O'Hanlon is best known for playing clueless priest Father Dougal in hit Channel 4 comedy Father Ted.
