Dennis Farina, the former police officer who starred as Detective Joe Fontana in Law & Order and the mobsters Jimmy Serrano in Midnight Run and Ray 'Bones' Barboni in Get Shorty, has died. He was 69.
The actor passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona after suffering a blood clot on his lung.
A Chicago Police Department veteran, Dennis Farina made his acting debut in Michael Mann's 1981 thriller Thief, having originally been hired as a consultant on the film.
He also starred in the cult series Crime Story and had roles in Out of Sight, Saving Private Ryan and the HBO series Luck among many other film, TV and theatre projects.
He is survived by three sons, six grandchildren and his partner of 35 years, Marianne Cahill.
