Zulu star Orlando Bloom has said that he was worried about reprising his role as Legolas from Lord of the Rings in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.

Speaking to Empire magazine, the 36-year-old actor admitted that he had reservations about returning to the fantasy franchise, saying: ''I was concerned a little bit, how to justify Legolas' return. But Peter, Fran [Walsh] and Philippa [Boyens] were very clear about how it would work. It feels authentic, you know?''

Meanwhile, Jackson, who is helming all three parts of The Hobbit trilogy, has revealed the second chapter in the movie series will be less humorous than last year's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

He said: ''This has less humour in it for sure. The first film was where we allowed ourselves to try and capture something of the children's book, but it is really not appropriate to do that anymore. Some pretty serious stuff is going down and it is important that we don't undercut that now.''
