Dead Man Down actor Dominic Cooper has said that he would "absolutely" consider taking on Matt Smith's iconic role as The Doctor in Doctor Who.

The 35-year-old star, who was previously linked to the role, said that while he would "consider" the role, it would be daunting if he landed the gig.

Speaking to This Morning, Cooper said: "I would definitely consider it... it would be very, very scary.

"Matt's done an incredible job of it, and he's made it so different and daring and I wouldn't know where to begin with where to take that after what he has done."

He added: "But, of course, it's an incredible show - you couldn't possibly not consider it."

Miranda Hart, Russell Brand, Helen Mirren and Samuel West are among those who have been suggested for the role.
