Harry Potter star Emma Watson has said that she was confused by the script of her new film, This Is The End.

Watson stars alongside Seth Rogen, Michael Cera, Rihanna and James Franco in the comedy. The all play themselves in the tale about an approaching apocalypse.

Speaking to Flicks and Bits, she said of the script "I thought it sounded crazy. I remember trying to get my head around it on the phone to my agent who was like, 'So, it's Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill and James Franco and Danny McBride and all these other comedians. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg are making it, and all the actors are playing themselves, and it's going to be the end of the world... and they want you in the movie'."

She added "I'm like, 'What? Why? How?' I had so many questions. I just remember reading it and thinking it's hilarious, I thought it was the most crazy, absurd premise for a story I'd ever heard. I had to do it.

"I was taken aback - why did they think of me? - but then I read the script, and it was so funny. And I loved that they made the only two women in the story these really strong, badass, funny characters. We come off so well."

She continued "This is my first ever comedy. This is one of the reasons why when I got the script I was like, 'OK, this is not my normal type of thing, this is not really always my sense humour'.

"But I thought, 'How can I miss out on a chance to work with some of best... the most impressive line-up of many of the best comedians there are basically in the world right now? How could I not want to go along for a week and just see what I could learn and pick up even?' I couldn't say no. It was an amazing opportunity."
The film opens in Ireland on June 28th.
