Emmelie de Forest won the Eurovision Song Content 2013 for Denmark with the song Only Teardrops last night.

The song, which was written by Lise Cabble, Julia Fabrin Jakobsen & Thomas Stengaard, was the pre-final favourite.

The 20-year-old won the 58th Eurovision Song Contest which took place in Malmo in Sweden in front of an expected television audience of 125 million people around the globe.

The luck of the Irish was noticeably absent as Ryan Dolan was voted into last place despite a great performance of his song Only Love Survives.

After the result Ryan said “Unfortunately luck just wasn’t on our side tonight. Obviously it’s really disappointing but I feel I gave it my best shot and I had an amazing team behind me every step of the way.

"I want to thank Leanne, Alison, Nicky, Colm and Alan for being such a brilliant team. I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time in Malmo with them.”

Ireland scored just five points from three countries.

Bonnie Tyler performed for the UK and she also came in the bottom half of the leaderboard.
