Ahead of his RDS shows, it is reported that Mullingar Town Council and Westmeath County Council have invited Bruce Springsteen to the county next week to explore his Irish roots.

The Irish Mirror reports that, according to the Greg Lewis and Moira Sharkey book Land of Hope and Dreams: Celebrating 25 Years of Bruce Springsteen in Ireland, the singer's great-great-grandmother, Ann Garrity from Westmeath, left Ireland for America during the Famine and settled in Freehold, New Jersey, where Springsteen grew up.

Author Sharkey said that Springsteen had ordered a copy of the book.

"Bruce has not been back in Ireland since the book came out," she said. "So we were delighted when he ordered a copy and also signed one for us."
