Villagers, Jape, Pugwash and Mik Pyro are among the Irish artists featured on a new album of soul covers in aid of the Simon Community

The Shortest Night is the latest annual release compiled by students of the Advanced Sound Engineering course at Dublin’s Sound Training Centre in aid of charity.

Last year they scored a major success with the charity album Silver Lining which raised £60,000 for the Headstrong charity and provided James Vincent McMorrow with a breakout hit with his cover of Stevie Winwood’s Higher Love.

For the 2012 edition, the students have decided to release the album in aid of The Dublin Simon Community to assist those dealing with homelessness.

The Shortest Night features covers by Villagers, Jape, Pugwash and Neil Hannon with IT Crowd star Matt Berry, The Pale and many more. The album will be symbolically released on June 21st which is the longest day of the year thus highlighting the plight of the homeless.

The album is launched tomorrow at Dublin’s Button Factory in Temple Bar. Admission is free and doors open at 7pm. The Shortest Night will be available for purchase at the venue.
