Brendan Gleeson - won't be playing a Smurf

Irish actor Brendan Gleeson is set to join the sequel to the recent successful Smurf movie.

Gleeson is amongst a number of new faces joining the movie which were announced this week including Christina Ricci and J.B. Smoove, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The Irish star has been cast at Patrick Winslow’s (Neil Patrick Harris) stepfather, Victor Doyle. Smoove is set to voice a new Smurf character call Hackus who is described by producers as naughty.

The first Smurf movie directed by Raja Goznell which was released last year grossed $564 million worldwide. Goznell is set to return to direct the sequel as well as stars Harris, Jayma Mays, Sofia Vergara, Hank Azaria and Katy Perry.
