Electric Picnic 2011

Day 3 started with rain. Lots of rain. But it has developed into a sunny, slightly breezy afternoon and early evening. The embers, however, are still kindling at the front of main stage from the night before as Arcade Fire were, well, on fire!

Electric Picnic 2011

Good Afternoon one and all, day two of Electric Picnic has arrived. PJ Harvey stole the show last night and Interpol rocked the house to a close just after her. Then it was off to The Body & Soul Arena to indulge in the chocolate tent and some Oxjamming!

So what have we got today? Well after we heard Arcade Fire sound check this morning and spotted long queues for the ATM (at midday!). Dan, Dave and the two Jenny's will bring you all the interviews, live sets and action from the Picnic until 1am tomorrow morning.

Amy Winehouse Obituary

Amy Winehouse (1983-2011)

Amy Jade Winehouse was born in Southgate, north London, on 14 September 1983 and was the younger of two children of Mitchell, a taxi driver, and Janis, a pharmacist. Mitchell often sang Frank Sinatra songs to young Amy, who later found herself so fond of singing, she constantly disrupted school lessons.

Winehouse got her first guitar when she was 13, and throughout her teens she worked on the fringes of the music industry before signing to Simon Fuller's 19 Management in 2002, where she was groomed for stardom.

By the time Winehouse's debut album, Frank, was released on 20 October 2003, she was just 20. She had yet to develope her image by this time. A big fan of 1960s girl groups, Winehouse would eventually borrow her distinctive hairdo and makeup style from The Ronettes.

Bob Dylan at the Marquee, Cork

Padraic Geoghegan has walked away from various Dylan concerts deflated or elated by the re-imagining and re-interpreting of songs many consider sacrosanct. In Cork, it was the latter.
