The Walking Dead finale

1 of 1 Is Lori in for a surprise?
Is Lori in for a surprise?

I am still in shock after Monday night's grand finale of The Walking Dead. I am frustrated and disappointed with the lack of information they shared in the ultimate episode. I presumed that at least one or two of the untied storylines would be answered, but we got nothing - the brief flashback of Shane in the hospital had so much potential, but failed to give us any juicy details.

I am desperate to know what Jenner whispered to Rick. By the looks of Rick's reaction it seemed to be pretty mind-blowing news. This is just a wild guess that I formulated while drifting off to sleep, but I have a feeling that Lori may be pregnant. The survivors could only enter the CDC building based on giving a blood test, and I bet you Jenner's picked up on a pregnancy. It all makes perfect sense when you think about it, and lines up a great season two storyline.

On the other hand, I was thinking that Jenner may have said that they are already infected or dead, but that theory quickly went out the window. The highlight of the episode had to be Rick's drunken confession to Jenner that he is just as scared as the rest of the survivors. It was the first time we got to see the everyman hero outside of his comfort zone and in a vulnerable position.

Initially, my heart was racing when the survivors entered the CDC building and I thought it had to be a trap. The only big reveal in here was that test subject 'TS-19' was the unstable scientist's wife, which was actually quite predictable looking back on it. Apart from that it was all frolics and games about the little luxuries in life that they had been deprived of for so long i.e. having a warm shower, eating hot food, reading books and guzzling back alcohol. In a nutshell it was a bit of a snorefest!

I have ceased to be interested in the character of Shane after he confronted Lori about their relationship. I don't even want to know what he was about to do, but as far as I am concerned his character doesn't have much to give anymore. Overall, the CDC experience was uninteresting and the brain experiment was not insightful or informative in any way. In fact, it almost insulted the intelligence of viewers - basically Jenner told us that once you are bitten by a Walker you turn into a zombie (hardly rocket science now is it?).

I am still finding it hard to accept that Jenner had been in the CDC building for months and months, but yet the day that the survivors arrive is when the fuel and electricity run out! That aside, the final episode began to gather momentum when Jenner dropped the bombshell (quite literally) that an explosive gas that sets the air on fire was going to sizzle them up.

Jacqui's character was never properly developed, but it still made no sense as to why she didn't evacuate the building when she was given the opportunity. Perhaps if we knew more about her background this storyline would have been effective and it may even have tugged at the heartstrings.

I thought it was interesting that no one went out of their way to save Jacqui or even coax her to leave, but yet there was great concern over Andrea's decision to stay. Poor Dale gave his best attempt at playing a bit of reverse psychology, and what would you know he managed to get her to leave. There is something eerie and almost shifty about Dale's character. I can't fully take to him, despite the fact that I know he is considered to be the most trustworthy member in the camp. It will be interesting to see what he brings to season 2. I have a feeling he is hiding some big news! Is he related to Andrea in some way?

There was a serious lack of funds invested into the explosive scene, and it was all a bit too cheesy for my liking. It lacked a sense of danger and everyone seemed to be a bit blasé about the whole thing. I don't really understand how the survivors that were hiding behind sandbags and cars only a couple of feet away didn't get harmed, but sure that scene could have a blog of its own. Also what happened to the zombies when this was all going on?

The Walking Dead premieres in the US in October 2011. Let's just hope it doesn't take too long to reach Irish shores!
