Katy B - On A Mission
Monday 25 April 2011Label: Columbia
Year: 2011
Duration: 50:46 minutes
Churning out mouthy young female pop stars could be the only heavy manufacturing industry left in the UK. 21-year-old London Irish gal Kathleen Brien rolls into an overcrowded market with this insanely catchy debut and it offers up a lot more than just pithy put downs and tales of break downs. She goes retro dance with a delightful melange of crisp drum `n' bass (the terrific Perfect Stranger), house and dubstep but the whole thing is kitted out with killer pop hooks. As Katy sings at one point "I sink into the tune" and you'll be doing the same. She may have just made the best dance pop album of the year. Mission accomplished.
