Their reluctance to go faster only adds to their allure

California quartet Chief's debut album features a track called 'Irish Song', but don't panic, it's class - just like everything else on this record.

Purveyors of great hooks and harmonies, the college band that stayed together have the same talent for the wistful as many of their West Coast forebears, and a line from 'Breaking Walls', "With you, I wake and every day's like summer's come", captures how many listeners will feel.

Chief only rock out a little, but their reluctance to go faster only adds to their allure, and you'll be in no rush to put on anyone else.

Hail to indeed.
